I am really enjoying this semester! I have found the technology to be an interesting way to connect students from different areas. While at times the are some technical difficulties, overall I feel that the technology is an enhancement to the class. I really enjoy the class meetings which are held entirely in second life using the type chat feature, I personally find this to be the easiest way to conduct this type of long-distance class that we have tried so far. In addition I love the ability to display our work in our second life world!

The technical issues are frustrating at times but they are not the major part of the experience. I appreciate the fact that students have a space they can come to outside of class hours and know that it is theirs, much like an RL studio or classroom that is dedicated only to their class.
ReplyDeleteThe use of SL for distance learning is really a good approach and as the professor, I am finding ways to challenge myself as I translate my plans for face-to-face activities and assignments to the virtual world.
I agree with Jennifer that the ability to display student work in Second Life has been a great feature. I look forward to working out how to do the same with future assignments this semester.
We had another great class session today, March 10. We discussed readings, viewed a video documentation of a performance artwork in Second Life by Second Front, and shared summaries of the work students have created in response to Assignment 3. The students are doing great work and seem to easily shift between discussions, videos, and other SL related activities during class. I am looking forward to seeing their work for Assignment 3.
